The REACH Interpretive Center is collaborating with local energy partners to host the fourth Energy Experience, a STEM-focused energy and environmental summit for 8th grade students in the Mid-Columbia region on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 8:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.

Partners of the event include the Benton Conservation District, Benton PUD, Benton REA, Bonneville Power Administration, Cascade Natural Gas, City of Richland Energy Services, Energy Northwest and Franklin PUD.  Over 400 students and their teachers from the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas will be attending.

The objective of the event is to create awareness and understanding of energy generation, safety, energy efficiency and public power. The day’s events will focus on the Common Core and Next-Generation science standards for 8th grade. The primary focus will be on educating students on various forms of energy including hydropower, nuclear, wind, solar, natural gas and how they power the region as well as the benefits and challenges of each form and the role of energy efficiency.

Each of the supporting partners will have interactive hands-on booth displays for the students to experience the benefits of our region’s energy resources. There will be outdoor safety demonstrations to teach students about electrical and natural gas safety. Students will also be introduced to careers in the energy industry through equipment displays and discussions with local energy professionals.

Prosser Memorial Health Now Offering High-Definition 3D Mammography

10/3/2019

Prosser Memorial Health now offers HD 3D Mammography in the Radiology Department. The Hologic Genius 3D Mammography exam allows providers to examine breast tissue layer by layer. This means fine details are more visible and no longer hidden by the tissue above or below. The Genius exam is currently the only mammogram FDA approved as superior for women with dense breasts. The unique Smart Curve Paddle provides more comfort and the Genius delivers a much faster image. It takes just 3.7 seconds as opposed to 10 seconds or more on a typical 3D machine.

“I am proud and excited to let our community know that we now have High Definition, 3D mammography at Prosser Memorial Health. This technology is the most sophisticated offered anywhere in Central Washington which is a pretty big deal for Prosser. It's also important to know that technology alone isn't the answer. It is the partnership between the HD 3D technology and the technique used by our team of highly skilled and trained technologists who know the importance of placement and positioning to reduce call backs, increase accuracy and give our patients the peace of mind they deserve when coming in for a mammogram," said Verlaine Schneider, Lead Mammography Specialist. "I have been doing mammography for more than 30 years. I know what is required to perform a mammogram correctly. At Prosser Memorial Health, we are committed to giving you our very best. I am confident that with our team at Prosser Memorial Health and the investment in this technology, our patients will receive superior service and superior outcomes. The best anywhere!"

Prosser Memorial Health is a Mammography and CT Accredited Facility and currently the only provider in the Yakima Valley or Tri-Cities region offering HD 3D Mammography with Smart Curve Technology. We are excited to offer this state-of-the-art technology to our patients. The American College of Radiology (ACR) recommends women start getting annual mammograms at age 40. To schedule a mammogram, learn more about HD 3D Mammography, or other Diagnostic Imaging services at Prosser Memorial Health, call 786.5596 or visit prosserhealth.org.
