City of Kennewick: 9/11 Memorial at the Southridge Complex – Remembrance Ceremony 10:30-11:00am9/8/2021 With the upcoming 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we wanted to remind our community of the 9-11 memorial located at the Southridge Sports & Events Complex in Kennewick. We encourage our citizens to come and visit the memorial to remember the events of September 11 and those who sacrificed their lives and continue to do so for our safety, security, and freedom.
There will be a formal ceremony in remembrance of September 11, 2001 held at the memorial from 10:30-11:00am on Saturday, September 11. Congressman Dan Newhouse will be the keynote speaker. 9/11 Memorial Background - The City of Kennewick was one of only a few communities throughout the entire United States that received a piece of steel from the World Trade Center and we are extremely proud to have this memorial in Kennewick. It is an important symbol to gather at on this solemn day and it stands proudly throughout the year to greet those who enter our southern gateway. For many it has also become a destination point and we continue to receive numerous compliments and comments expressing appreciation that this memorial is accessible to our residents and visitors. Lampson International worked in conjunction with the City of Kennewick and the Port Authorities of New York and New Jersey to facilitate the monument's transfer and fabrication. The memorial quickly grew in to a community-wide volunteer project that had numerous local businesses and residents working in partnership and donating generously. The three-ton, 35-foot-tall monument was dedicated on September 11, 2011.
