The City of Kennewick and Kennewick Housing Authority are inviting the public to discuss a proposal from the Kennewick Housing Authority (KHA) to redevelop the south 4 acres of city-owned land at 410 E. 10th Ave. for housing. Following the same presentation of information at each meeting, the City and KHA invite public comment.
The affordable housing partnership between the city and KHA follows a housing market study conducted in March demonstrating a 0% affordable housing vacancy rate in the greater Tri-Cities region. The city received a Healthy Housing grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology to fund the housing study, a site redevelopment feasibility study, and public outreach on the concept. The proposed construction site is located on the north side of E. 13th Ave. between the 400 and 600 block (Benton County Parcel ID 107802000001000). The housing marketing study and additional information is available at https://www.go2ennewick.com/Housing or from the City of Kennewick Economic Development office at [email protected] or 509-585-4450. Public input will inform city officials and the KHA and be provided to the Washington State Department of Ecology, said Emily Estes-Cross, the city’s Economic Development Director. “There’s a significant need for affordable housing due to job growth and rent increases outpacing income,” Estes-Cross said, “and public input supports equitable decision-making in addressing community needs.” Written comments are also accepted by mail at PO Box 6108, Kennewick, WA 99336; or e-mail [email protected]. Comments received by 4:30 pm on Monday, October 24th will be published in the initial public input report.
