Better Business Bureau Northwest + Pacific and partners are hosting a free document shredding event, Friday, Oct. 19, to help the community safely dispose of personal documents and prevent identity theft. This event gives community members the opportunity to secure their identities by properly disposing of unneeded and unwanted documents while receiving identity protection and cyber security tips.
Join Better Business Bureau Northwest + Pacific as they partner with NBC Right Now Tri-Cities, Numerica Credit Union – Tri-Cities, and several other local entities from 5 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19, at Southridge Numerica Credit Union, 4898 W. Hildebrand Blvd., Ste. 120, Kennewick. "BBB Shred Day is a time for the community to take a proactive step in keeping their personal information safe,” said Tyler Andrew, BBB Northwest + Pacific CEO. “The threat of identity theft is real. Properly disposing of confidential documents is a great step toward being protected." Each person can bring up to two bags or boxes of personal documents to be disposed. Here’s a reminder of what’s recommended to keep and what to shred throughout the years:
BBB staff will be on site offering tips on how consumers can protect themselves from identity theft. This includes information about how consumers can protect their digital identity, and how understanding cyber security threats help to keep all personally identifiable information safe.
