The Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation is a proud 2021 recipient of a $4,000 grant from the Pink Shamrock Foundation to fund critical chemotherapy care bags through Warrior Sisterhood, a women’s group operating under the Foundation. In addition to this grant, the Foundation also ran a campaign in October to help fund these bags, raising well over $9,000 from generous community donors.
Warrior Sisterhood is a program of the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation and was founded by four local cancer survivors in 2013. This group primarily serves women that are trying to balance a job, family and busy life in addition to cancer diagnosis. They offer emotional support, nominal support, yoga scholarships and one of their most utilized resources, chemotherapy care bags. Each month they receive referrals from Kadlec Tri-Cities Cancer Center’s nurse navigation team of newly diagnosed women to support. Warrior Sisterhood’s chemotherapy bags have been a huge blessing to women undergoing chemotherapy in the community. The bags include a variety of useful items and tips to make infusions more comfortable. Last year, Warrior Sisterhood supported 40 women with chemotherapy bags. So far this year they have been able to provide 25 bags. With fundraising being ever challenging during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic the ability to fund these highly utilized bags has been very challenging (due to cancellations of events, and other typical avenues of fundraising). The Pink Shamrock Grant and community donations will allow for nearly 140 newly diagnosed cancer patients to receive these critical chemotherapy care bags.
