The 2023 Summer Reading Program runs through August 21. Readers can participate in fun challenges and activities, attend cool programs, and win awesome prizes. There are four reading challenges – baby, youth, teen, and adult.
This year’s theme is “Find Your Voice,” which means your voice has power. We use our voices to share stories, express ourselves, and spark change. Our voices include the sounds we make, the words we write, the art we create, the movements we perform, and the actions we take each day to impact our world. All you have to do is register online or through the Beanstack app on your phone, keep track of the time/days you read or listen to a book and complete the challenges, activities, or book reviews which in turn earn you badges to win prizes. The prizes are geared toward each reading level and include bicycles, a skating party, gift cards (up to $100) and a Nintendo Switch! To register, or for more information, visit https://richland.beanstack.org/reader365. There are also special programs for all ages this summer designed to help you find your artistic skills through writing workshops, crafts, and more! Check out our event calendar here: https://www.myrichlandlibrary.org/programs-and-events/event-calender. Pickleball fever has swept the nation, quickly becoming the fastest growing sport in America and now the official state sport of Washington. Please join us on Saturday, June 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lawrence Scott Park as we open the largest outdoor Pickleball complex in the State of Washington. With the addition of 12 new championship quality courts combined with 3 existing courts, this complex makes Kennewick the Pickleball capital of the State. A 74 foot by 45 foot picnic shelter pavilion and new restroom complement the new courts.
Community members, sponsors, and dignitaries will share how this dream became a reality. The project was partially funded with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars, but is a true community partnership with funding coming from Toyota of Tri-Cities, Retter & Company Sotheby’s International Realty, and Club 509 Pickleball. The first 100 people get their choice of 2 free tamales from Miss Tamale or a shaved ice cup from Kona Ice. This is also your chance to learn the basics of Pickleball with Club 509 Pickleball offering free instruction. Mayor McKay alongside sponsors and City staff will play the first game, and officially open the complex for play after a short speaking agenda. Lawrence Scott Park is located at 6020 W. Quinault, Kennewick, WA 99336. For more information, please contact Nick Farline at 509-585-4544 or [email protected].
